Sergeant Chad Underwood


has been employed with the Urbandale Police Department since 2003. He started his law enforcement career in 2001 and served two (2) years with the St. Louis Airport Police Department, St. Louis, MO.

Sgt. Underwood is currently assigned as the Support Service Division Sergeant. He has served as a Sergeant in the Patrol Division prior to his current appointment. Prior to his promotion to Sergeant, he worked as a detective in the Investigation Division for the department. As a detective, he served as a Property Crimes and Crimes Against Person detective. He has also served as a Defensive Tactics Instructor, Rape Aggression Defense Instructor (RADD), Field Training Officer, a S.W.A.T/Suburban Emergency Response Team Member and a Domestic Violence Instructor.

Sgt Underwood has served as the President of the Iowa Crime Prevention Association and as a Board Member for the Iowa Department of Public Health Domestic Violence Death Review Team. Sgt. Underwood is a Contract Instructor for the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) specializing in teaching Domestic Violence Investigation.

Sgt. Underwood is a graduate of the University of Central Missouri with a Master's Degree in Administration of Justice.

Sgt. Underwood has been selected to attend the Federal Bureau of Investigations National Academy, class #273, in July of 2018.

Casey 2017_2a

Sergeant Jeff Casey

has been employed with the Urbandale Police Department since 1995 and is currently assigned to the Urbandale Police Department Support Services Division. Sergeant Casey is a graduate of Johnston High School and the University of Iowa, receiving his Bachelor of Science degree in 1988.

Sergeant Casey began his career as a patrol officer. During this time he earned his certification as a bicycle patrol officer and motorcycle patrol officer. Sergeant Casey was selected to be the D.A.R.E. Officer in 2001 and worked with area school districts as a D.A.R.E./School Resource Officer until 2014.

Sergeant Casey was assigned to Support Services Division in 2009 where he continued with school duties, along with becoming the Urbandale Controlled Bow Hunt administrator and grant writer/administrator for the department. During his assignment in Support Services Division, Sergeant Casey also became certified as a firearms instructor, firearms armorer and served as one of the Public Information Officers for the Urbandale Police Department.

In 2014, Sergeant Casey was asked by the Chief of Police to find an alternative program to replace D.A.R.E. within the City of Urbandale. Sergeant Casey developed the Culture of Integrity program, which was recognized as an innovative program by the United States Department of Justice. The two officers instructing the program received the Attorney General's Award for Distinguished Service in Community Policing for their outstanding efforts in promoting the Culture of Integrity Program.

In August of 2014, Sergeant Casey was promoted to his current rank and was assigned to the Patrol Division as one of the overnight supervisors until October of 2016 when he was moved into a daytime supervisor slot.

Sergeant Casey was transferred to the Administrative Services Division in March, 2017. This division merged with the Support Services Division in August of 2019. Sgt. Casey continuing the duties of overseeing C.A.L.E.A., property/evidence, hiring, training, interns, and records.
